What is Losec?
Losec contains the active ingredient omeprazole. It is a medicine in the proton pump inhibitor class, reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach.
Losec is used to treat the following conditions in adult patients:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD
- Ulcers in the upper part of the intestine or stomach
- Ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori bacteria
- Ulcers caused by NSAIDs
- Too much acid in the stomach due to a growth in the pancreas
How does Losec work?
Losec (omeprazole) works by blocking the proton pumps in the stomach lining, which are responsible for producing gastric acid. By inhibiting this pump, Losec helps lower stomach acid levels, alleviating symptoms associated with excessive acid, like heartburn, acid reflux, and promoting ulcer healing.
What are the benefits of taking Losec?
Losec is effective in decreasing the production of acid in the stomach. It results in the relief of symptoms and allow healing to take place. Losec has been proven to be an effective treatment for different conditions characterized by too much acid in the stomach.
Take one daily.
Losec MUPS can either be swallowed whole with a sip of water or opened and dissolved in a glass of water or juice. In either case, do not chew the pellets. If mixing the pellets with water, rinse the glass with some water and drink from it again, in order to consume any pellets stuck to the glass.
Main side-effects experienced are:
Digestion problems (including stomach pain, constipation, diarrhoea, wind), headache, nausea
